AIDA: an acronym for attention, interest, desire, action, the four steps first identified by to describe the steps of the selling process

B2B: an acronym for business-to-business; a description of the relationship of the business to the target audience

B2C: an acronym for business to consumer; a description of the relationship of the business to the target audience

CRM: an acronym for cause-related marketing; the association of a for-profit company with a nonprofit organization, intended to promote the company’s product or service and to raise money for the nonprofit.

CRM: an acronym for customer relationship management; the application of a marketing strategy focused on awareness of customer requirements.

Decay: corruption of a marketing message over time.

Icon: a sign that looks like an object or represents it in a way that most people recognize. Example: handicap sign.

Index: a sign that relates to the object by some kind of causal connection. Example: tears denote sadness.

Message: the vehicle by which an idea is transmitted via a medium.

Noise: anything that interferes with the proper delivery of a message.

Selective attention: the process of screening out information that is not of interest and processing information that is of interest.

Semiotics: the study of signs and symbols in a language

Symbol: an artificial sign created for a purpose or meaning. Example: Nike swoosh.

Syntactics: the grammatical arrangement of words.

Semantics: the branch of linguistics concerned with meaning.
